Nature-Infused Wood Portraits

Artist Cil Laurens combines the old and the new in her graphic illustrations. Though her subjects depict a contemporary style, she chooses to etch the characters into blocks of wood, which add an antique-like element to the collection. The modern character stylings coupled with the nature-infused imagery on wood make for an interesting visual. The Amsterdam-based artist's inclusion of feathers and floral patterns within the hair, body, and contours of the subjects are what really add personality and character to the pieces. Each artwork features a natural representation of the human form and, at times, a botanical extension of limbs and mane. Laurens' illustrations reflect many styles from art nouveau to Japanese and Indian art influences. For more work, check out the artist's website.
