Survivors and Perpetrators of Rwandan Genocide Pose Together in Powerful Portraits [Interview]

What does it mean to forgive someone? How is reconciliation possible when a person commits the worst acts imaginable? These are just two of the questions that surface from Dutch photographer Jan Banning’s series Blood Bonds: Reconciliation in Post-Genocide Rwanda. The collection, in which Banning’s photographs are paired with text from writer Dick Wittenberg, shows the unexpected: perpetrators and survivors of the Rwandan genocide posing together in solemn, restrained portraits.

Annie Leibovitz Brings Stylish Vision to the World Cup Then and Now in New Photography Exhibition

Legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz has captured some of the world’s biggest celebrities, including athletes LeBron James and Serena Williams. But 40 years ago, she was given a unique task in the soccer realm: create the advertising campaign for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Starring athletic-looking models against archaeological sites and colorful landscapes, the endeavor made the famous photographer part of the tournament’s history, albeit somewhat removed.

The 2026 Weather Photographer of the Year Competition Is Now Open for Submissions

The Weather Photographer of the Year is now accepting entries for its 2026 competition. Hosted by the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), it honors images that showcase the power, beauty, and ultimately the impact of weather. Last year’s winning photographs, for instance, were a mixture of rare sights—like circular rainbows—and images illustrating the influence of climate change on storms and sunshine across the globe. You can’t talk about the weather without mentioning climate change.

Winners of the World Food Photography Awards Tell Stories of Cultures Across the Globe

The World Food Photography Awards sponsored by Bimi® is a celebration of the genre in its many and ever-changing forms. Its competition draws thousands of entries each year, and the contest recently announced its 2026 category winners and the grand prize of the Overall Winner. Rising to the top, from nearly 9,000 images, was A Woman Eats in the Canteen of the Soviet-era Sanatorium, shot by British photographer Jo Kearney.
