Incredibly Tiny Half-Inch Tall Sculptures

The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

UK-based artist Nic Joly is well-versed in all kinds of creative media including stained glass, metal work, furniture design, and, in this instance, sculptures. His Little People Under Foot set is a collection of tiny people in everyday life scenes, generally standing a little less than one half inch tall. His clever titles give direction to the narrative of each small setting, where the figures interact with each other as well as life-sized items like butterflies or used cigarette butts.

Joly says, “As we go through the journey that is our lives we come across situations, and make observations about what we see and feel. With my under foot collection I strive to highlight my own observations and thoughts about my journey, and things I have seen.”

Lectures from dad, hangovers, and garbage clean-up are just a few of the life moments that the tiny figures experience. By framing each sculpture in a museum-quality, glass fronted box frame, Joly turns the scenes into what he describes as, “small wall hung pieces of theatre.”
