Modern Toy Display Hidden Behind a Simple Garage Door

Behind this simple brick wall is a modern, unexpected design called Bear Garage. Avid collectors of Be@rbrick toys, the homeowners wanted a proper display for their large assortment of the squared-off little teddy bears. When the door is open, this contemporary space is anything but an average parking area for cars!

Hired on for the job were OpenBox and Onion, both architect firms located in Thailand. The two groups collaborated on the project, with OpenBox design directors Nui Suwannatrai and Prang Jenpanichkarn developing the interior space and Onion design directors Arisara Chaktranon and Siriyot Chaiamnuay creating the special cabinet displays for the bears.

The team says the project was “an exploration of one simple form and space, shaped by desired visual impacts from various angles.” Inside the units, which run along two walls, are floating white shelves on which the variously sized Be@rbricks are perched. Placed evenly apart with bright backlighting, the toys are protected behind sheets of glass. Along with the display cases, the architects designed a lounge area where owners can relax on couches and admire their extensive collection.
