Amazingly Detailed Portraits Created with Thousands of Dots

Artist Pablo Jurado Ruiz uses impressive Pointillism techniques to fill his black and white illustrated portraits with great detail and personality. Based in Spain, the artist focuses much of his time on portraying people with realistic style. He uses just black ink on paper to produce thousands of repetitive little dots that result in the various shades of gray and rich black across the page.

It's amazing how much detail Ruiz is able to convey with just a series of dots. He gives life and personality to his variety of young characters with a slight tilt of the head, a timid, childlike stare, or a subtly furrowed brow. When explaining his work, he says, “I like to talk about love, disappointment, nature, childhood…and I show it in a glance, a gesture, or a detail as if it were a metaphor of life.”
