Gorgeous Ink Illustrations Painted on Guitars

Transforming the surface of guitars into gorgeous ink illustrations is a popular artform. Last summer, we featured Patrick Fisher's intricate patterns on stringed instruments, which he created with just a sharpie pen. More recently, we came across these colorful versions of guitar illustrations by Argentinian artist Pez DeTierra.

Across all types of surfaces, many of the artist's paintings and drawings involve thick outline strokes that are filled in with various lighter shades of color. For these works on guitars, each one of her designs is made with a nib and ink on acrylic. The artist first paints a very flat image on the surface of the wood and then fills in the silhouettes with complex and detailed textures, which combine with leafy swirls to form her signature style. The visual energy that emanates from the surface of these instruments must certainly add to the vivacity of the sounds that emerge when a musician begins to play.
