Sculptor Turns Fallen Branches Into Mythical Beasts and Larger-Than-Life Animals

While most people see tree branches, twigs, and shrubs, Warsaw-based artist Rodolfo Liprandi sees raw materials for creating sculptures. He transforms found forest debris into larger-than-life animals and mythical creatures, shaping forms that look as though they’ve grown straight from the forest floor. Liprandi grew up in northeastern Italy near the Slovenian border, where the surrounding landscape was a constant source of inspiration.

All is not what it seems in sculptures by the artist known simply as Marck. In his alluring and enigmatic works, dimensions blur in a part-screen, part-tactile viewing experience. What happens on the screen in front of us directly influences the objects jutting from behind the frames that hold the large video screen, or vice versa. It’s a surreal sight as two seemingly disparate worlds influence one another in real time.

Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Statues Finally Restored After Surviving an Earthquake 2,000 Years Ago

More than 1,200 years after they were damaged by an earthquake, the two alabaster statues of Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep III—known as the Colossi of Memnon—have been partially restored. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities recently unveiled the newly conserved, 30-feet-tall monuments at the entrance to the ancient king’s 86-acre burial site near Luxor. King Amenhotep III ruled Egypt from around 1388 to 1349 BCE, during one of the civilization’s most prosperous and influential periods.

Ethereal Lighting Marries Landscape Painting With Sculpture To Evoke Serenity in Any Room

Artists David J Rodriguez and Lyora Pissarro marry painting and sculpture by way of lighting. Together, they have produced Unfolding Radiance: a circular, illuminated work of art that combines Pissarro’s oil painting with Rodriguez’s relief forms. The 36-inch-diameter piece features organic elements that recall layered rock or sediment. Each jagged shape is slightly raised, allowing for the LED lighting to reach behind and in front of the individual forms.
