Now this seems like a sweet idea to get behind! +Pool is an initiative to build a floating pool for everyone in the rivers of NYC. Seem far-fetched? Well, then you'll be surprised to find out that the three designers behind this have feverishly spent the last year working with experts to make you a believer.
"What we hadn’t anticipated was that within the first few days over 50,000 people had shown interest in the project and we were fielding calls left and right about how to make this pool a reality," they told Kickstarter. "At the end of the first week, we got a call from Arup, one of the most innovative engineering firms in the world (and frankly, a firm we never thought we’d even get a chance to talk to) who basically said, “look guys, you've got something new here, and we want to help you make it happen.” Arup offered to donate their resources and it was at that moment that we realized that this thing was really going to happen."
How will this work? +Pool is designed so that it filters river water through its pool's walls. "The concentric layers of filtration materials that make up the sides of the pool are designed to remove bacteria, contaminants and odors, leaving only safe and swimmable water that meets city, state and federal standards of quality.
"This pool will be the first of its kind."
+Pool will need $100k. They've already reached their first milestone of $25k. Watch the video and then tell us what you think. The amount of drive and motivation these guys have is inspiring, to say the least.
I like the idea butas a mum I remember taking my daughter to the pool where I always had to pay attention where she would jump.
Concept on a river doubles the risk , what has been thought to avoid people falling into the river.
These guys are idiots. It would only take one drunken idiot to fall in pool and drown. Then there will be 8 0000 000 000 lawyers standing in line to sue them, the city and everyone else who was involved in this project.
