Threadless and Tate Modern recently collaborated for the
Pop Life T-shirt Design Challenge. The contest, which ran for the month of October, challenged young artists to define what "Pop" meant to them. They were asked to create a T-shirt design inspired by
Tate Modern’s Pop Life exhibition.
The exhibition, which takes place until mid-January, brings together artists from the 1980s onwards who have embraced commerce and the mass media to build their own 'brands'. Pop Life includes Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and more. This was not just a clever way to actively engage the artist community, it urged new artists to research and appreciate current and older pop art icons.
Who rose to the challenge? One of our favorite submissions came from
Alvaro Arteaga who took our favorite Simpson characters and transformed them into still life objects. Can you spot all of your favorite Simpson characters?
Stay tuned to find out who won.
