Poetic Book Sculptures

Poetry has found a new medium. Iceland-based poet, performer, and visual artist Ragnhildur Jhanns constructs flowery paper art sculptures in her series entitled Sculptural Poems. Using the support of a book's form, the artist extends the text beyond the confines of the structure by adding poetic written words on strips of paper. The result is a feathery figure of a medium that is near extinction.

Despite Jhanns' book-altering methods, there appears to be a fondness for the physical form of publishing. In a way, her works showcase the artistic appeal of a real book over an e-book. From another perspective, the artist may be drawing attention to the fact that these carriers of knowledge are transforming into nothing more than visual pieces of furniture. In either case, Jhanns has produced a series of beautiful, poetic statements.
