Incredible Animal Sculptures Made of Wax

Rebecca Stevenson's work is a unique blend of lively wax flowers and fruit with human and animal figures. Each sculpture features delicately designed wax arrangements that burst out of the traditional forms in an ornamental fashion. The unexpectedly pleasing aesthetic transforms the classic carvings into elaborate, and almost grotesque, works.

Stevenson focuses much of her attention on the concept of excess, both in the visual presentation along with the plethora of fruits, foods, and florals presented to the viewer. The sculptures are a confusing blend of pleasant, charming elements sitting in direct contrast with open wounds and decapitated heads. Stevenson says, “The pieces can be viewed as ‘pretty' or ‘sweet,' but can also be seen as expressions of primal fantasies, anxieties and desires related to sensuality, food and the body.”
