Artists Make-Up Drawings Celebrate Chinese New Year

In honor of the Chinese New Year, artist Hong Yi (aka Red) is using make-up in all sorts of unexpected ways to produce this beautifully decorative series of Chinese scenes. The incredibly skilled artist has been known to use everything from flower petals to rings of coffee stains to create her impressively unconventional designs.

For this ongoing series, Red finds her inspiration from Chinese art, culture, and traditions. She uses products like lipstick, mascara, and nail polish to create the interesting landscapes and portraits that convey elements from a Chinese culture including a mask used in many Chinese operas from ancient times and fireworks that are annually used to welcome in the New Year.

Red first began experimenting with make-up back in August and, now, each day throughout the 15 days of the Chinese New Year she will post a new image on her Instagram. So keep following to see more creations where the imaginative artist turns average materials into magical works of art.
