Remember Tamagotchis? Those little toys that became your very own digital pet you could feed and play with? Well, if you liked those, then you definitely need to see this. The Biome Smart Terrarium by Samuel Wilkinson is like an adult Tamagotchi, a flora terrarium that is controlled by your iPad or iPhone. The Terrarium contains sensors that monitor its needed, such as water, nutrients or light, providing your Apple device with data. Not only is this biome a brag-worthy decoration in the home, it's also a great way to teach the kids about plant life and ecology.
Wilkinson says, "The idea promotes 'digital downtime' by finding an alternative use for smartphones and encouraging their owners to consider a slower life. The control and nurturing of a real mini eco-system takes patience and care, contrasting with the immediacy of messaging or tweeting that is so characteristic of the smartphone generation."
