Mexican artist Ricardo Solis creates amusing paintings that playfully illustrate how animals are created. In the whimsical works, viewers become witness to an imaginative process that explains how a zebra gets its stripes, how a leopard gets its spots, or how a flamingo gets its colorful pink feathers.
Beautifully composed, yet incomplete animal forms are surrounded by tiny human figures that work to build each creature's colorful details, feathers, stripes, or spots. Solis uses oil along with black Indian ink or Chinese ink on canvas to capture interesting textures of paper combined with the newly created forms.
Solis' bio explains, “As a professional artist, he tries to express in his work the beauty and perfection of both [art and nature], along with his belief in the undeniable existence of a Creator. He also often captures the innocence of childhood with his touching and evocative scenes of a child's imagination.”
