Welcome to the weird but wonderfully wacky world of Ron Ulicny. This Portland, Oregon-based artist and craftsman creates strange sculptures that you can't help but want to stare at. Now showing at Spoke Art gallery in San Francisco are Ulicny's new works that include everything from a 1930's Harmony guitar turned abstract art piece to a baseball stuffed into small glass jars. Some of our favorite pieces from him include the carved out bowling pin landscape and the faucet with streaming Scrabble letters.

As Spoke Art says, "Instead of merely classifying his work as 'assemblage' or 'found' objects, the artist puts specific intention, meaning and weight behind every detail in his work. Armed with a keen eye for design and illustration, Ulicny pushes boundaries of sculptural work that pushes and pulls the viewer in with both thoughtfulness and humor. With his visceral constructions, Ron challenges our initial perceptions of life, experience and everyday happenstance thus creating simple yet stunning affects."

  • Fantastic! Makes me do a double take for each one.

  • A brilliant comment Pinar!
We should of course all be living in harmony.

  • Really creative designs! If all shotguns were built like trumpets, we'd all be living in harmony... think about it.
