Mesmerizing Negative Octopus Wins Smithsonian Award

Alabama-based photographer Sarah Jackson was the "Altered Images Winner" in the 2011-2012 Smithsonian Institute International Photography Competition. She snapped the mesmerizing shot at the Georgia Aquarium before digitally manipulating it. “I tried a negative filter and loved the look of the glowing, otherworldly octopus,” says Jackson. The photo will be featured in the July 2012 Smithsonian Magazine and will hang in the Smithsonian Institute gallery, which she says is a dream come true.
