San Francisco-based artist Sean Newport has developed a range of artwork pieces from design to sculpture throughout his career. Working primarily as a woodworker, Newport has honed his skills as a carpenter to fine artist over the past 5 years. His sculptures deal with “perceived notions of reality and the idea of creating a digital aesthetic through analogue processes.” This is achieved by manipulating wood into three-dimensional shapes, and then painting and arranging them in ways that allow patterns to emerge from unique geometric designs.
A major idea within Newport's work is the manipulation of color and light in a way that bends reality, according to one's perspective. By exploring how our brains react to optical illusions, his pieces allow us to delve deeper into the notions of “reality.” His Perspective Shift collection is currently on display at SCOPE Miami Beach 2015 through December 6th, in coordination with Gauntlet Gallery. With over 1.2 million visitors, SCOPE is one of the “largest and most global emerging art fairs in the world” with many up and coming artists such as Newport exhibiting collections.
