Genius Smell-Based Alarm Clock Will Wake You Up with Your Favorite Scents

When 17-year-old Guillaume Rolland found that he had way too much trouble getting up in the morning, he decided to fix this problem by inventing SensorWake–an alarm clock that uses various scents to gently, yet effectively, wake him up. Instead of blasting loud noises, this device releases stimulating scents, which include coffee, croissants, the ocean, and money. “I thought that now, in the 21st century, everyone should have the right to wake up happy, relaxed and peaceful, ready for a great day,” says Guillaume.

One year after the young entrepreneur came up with this innovative idea, his garage-built prototype placed in the Top 15 “inventions that can change the world” at the 2014 Google Science Fair. Since then, Guillaume has assembled a team of talented people that are ready to make that change a reality. SensorWake has even partnered with Givaudan, the world leader in fragrances and flavors. “We are used to working with household brands. But SensorWake represents a great challenge for us,” admits a Givaudan representative. “We've never done scented capsules for an olfactory alarm clock before!” However, Givaudan states, “We truly believe in Guillaume's product and team. It's going to change the way we wake up.”

Not only is this unique alarm clock taking a new approach to waking people up, it's looking to take an eco-friendly approach, as well. “At SensorWake we wanted to make a great device, not only for you, but also for our planet,” stated the startup. “That's why we designed it to be durable with high-quality materials to keep them out of landfills. Capsules are also 100% recyclable and free of any VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).”

In May 2015, SensorWake launched its first Kickstarter with a goal of $54,761. Already, with 22 days to go, this goal has been met and the incredible new company has raised $126,648. By November 2015, the device will be shipped out to all of the sponsors and purchasers who have embraced this new way to start the morning.
