Caring Heart Surgeon Soothes Scared 2-Year-Old Girl Before Crucial Operation

Doctor's offices can be an intimidating place for young children, especially if they're undergoing a crucial surgery. Luckily, Zhejiang University Hospital's Dr. Shi Zhuo knows this and heartwarmingly demonstrates just how understanding he is by comforting a patient, who happens to be a toddler. When 2-year-old Xin Er (her real name is protected) went to the hospital for heart surgery, she was absolutely terrified. As she entered the operating room, she became inconsolable. “On that day, she started crying as soon as she got into the operating [room],” Dr. Zhuo told Daily Mail. “She kept crying and saying, ‘I want daddy.' I said, ‘Let's watch some cartoons and then find him, okay?'” He then scooped up the little girl and let her watch some of her favorite cartoons on his iPhone.

“In reality, it doesn't matter whether it's a boy or a girl, they all get scared in the operating [room],” the doctor explains. “As parents, we understand that the children are scared and can appreciate the worry of the family.” To help Xin Er get through this scary experience, Zhuo also visited her, every day, for three days straight before she was due for surgery. Simply put, Dr. Zhuo says, “It's part of our job.”

Now, the 2-year-old is recovering after her successful surgery.
