Snow-Covered Chicago After the Epic Blizzard (12 photos)

According to the National Weather Service, the early February 2011 blizzard through Chicago brought a whopping 20 inches of snow, making it the the third worst winter storm in Chicago history. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Chicago area was under a wind chill advisory soon after, with temperatures plummeting to single digits or 30-below with wind chills. That’s cold enough for exposed skin to develop frostbite in less than 30 minutes!

Through it all, one photographer was brave enough to step out into the bone chilling cold to show the rest of the world what he and his fellow Chicagoans were going through. These photos were taken from around Octavious' neighborhood the morning after the blizzard.

I like the one word he used to describe one of his photos: WhiteOut.

Paul Octavious, the brave and bundled up photographer

"I had to bundle up like woah! to travel out in the Chi blizzard," he says. "I also lost my tripod pictured above. I put it down to take a shot and the wind and snow covered it right up!"

being from chicago and experiencing that storm, I think he could have depicted the depth and accumulation better. other than that, pretty neat.
