Artist Soey Milk seamlessly fuses photorealism with abstraction to create captivating paintings. The beautiful artworks feature portraits of women surrounded by luscious colors, patterns, flowers, and more. Often, parts of their bodies are obscured by these elements, and it's here that Milk interjects surrealism into her compositions. They form fantastical dreamscapes that seem to offer an intriguing look inside of subjects' heads.
Milk hasn't always painted in this way, and she used to produce her works in complete photorealistic perfection. But, she became disillusioned after a piece of hers was sent back in the mail and arrived completely damaged. A dirty footprint was stamped on a painted face that she had labored over. This was a wake up call for Milk, and afterwards she started to work in a more carefree manner. Looser brush strokes, color collisions, and meandering drips made their way into her paintings and haven't left since.
