Astronomers Reveal Stunning Thousand-Color Photo of Nearby Galaxy

Thanks to the European Southern Observatoryโ€™s Very Large Telescope, astronomers have created a thousand-color image of a nearby galaxy. The Sculptor Galaxy, also called NGC 253, is located 11 billion light-years away from us and can easily be viewed in the Southern Hemisphere with binoculars. But you've never seen it quite like this before. In a stunning high-definition photograph, astronomers have revealed previously hidden parts of the galaxy.

You Can Take a Free Selfie in Space Thanks to Ex-NASA Engineer Mark Roberโ€™s $5M Satellite

People are often thinking of creative locations for their next selfie, so why not outer space? That's exactly what former NASA engineer and popular YouTuber Mark Rober has made possible with SAT GUS. In January 2025, this satellite, which took Rober three years and $5 million to develop, was launched into space. And this summer, as it orbits Earth, it will be taking free selfies.

Japan Is Making History by Harnessing Solar Power From Space

Japan is taking the concept of solar energy to a new level by moving into outer space. The country's OHISAMA project, named after the Japanese word for sun, will launch a space-based solar power station that can wirelessly beam energy back to Earth. At the International Conference on Energy from Space, held in London in April 2024, Koichi Ijichi, an adviser at Japan Space System, discussed how OHISAMA would work.
