Powerful Portraits Crafted From Hammered Nails Explore Black Identity, Healing, and Resistance [Interview]

For more than a decade, Franco-Brazilian artist Alexis Peskine has transformed nails and wood into powerful meditations on resistance, healing, and Black identity. His large-scale works combine thousands of hammered nails with natural pigments and other organic materials, turning a physically demanding process into a visual language rich with symbolism. Peskine’s practice draws from his experiences as a Black man who grew up in Paris and spent time in Brazil and the United States.

Pittsburgh Unveils New Pickleball Courts That Double as Vibrant Works of Public Art

Pittsburgh is leaning into that spirit with a colorful new twist: the city’s first artist-designed pickleball courts. Colorful Papier-Mâché Sculptures Bring Abstract Paintings Into Three Dimensions

This summer, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) in Rockland, Maine, presents Eyes, the first institutional solo exhibition by Portland-based artist Bianca Beck. On view through September 6, 2026, the exhibition debuts five new papier-mâché sculptures created specifically to pair with Beck’s paintings, revealing how a shared visual language can move between two and three dimensions.
