New 3D Snake Painting Looks Like It’s Primed to Pounce Off the Page

Artist Stefan Pabst has a knack for creating 3D drawings. Since we last featured his work, the artist has continued to expand his portfolio of drawings that look as though they're ready to leap off the page. One of his most recent creations is a snake that will either have you running while screaming or sticking around long enough to wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you.

“This 3D Drawing uses an anamorphosis optical illusion to trick your eye into thinking it is real,” Pabst explains. “Anamorphosis is a distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to use special devices or occupy a specific vantage point to reconstitute the image. The word ‘anamorphosis' is derived from the Greek prefix ‘ana‑', meaning back or again, and the word ‘morphe', meaning shape or form.”

In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Pabst said, “I often get responses from people that all this is just fake or processed by a computer.” Luckily, his impressive YouTube portfolio shows us just how real his talent is.
