Fascinating Underground Worlds by Steve Duncan

Nottingham, England

Urban historian, explorer, and photographer Steve Duncan has been investigating the underground world of sewers, tunnels, and subways for years. Traveling beneath international cities including New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris, he has great knowledge of many subterranean worlds. He has hosted the Discovery Channel show Urban Explorers and has also appeared on the History Channel as a dedicated expert on the subject of New York City's underground.

With that knowledge and expertise, Duncan brings these thorough examinations to the above ground world through his photographs. He transforms normally dark and murky hidden infrastructures, so rarely visited, into intriguing and approachable landscapes. As we go about our daily lives, a forgotten and valuable world exists below our feet, and Duncan strives to maintain an awareness of these important pieces of history.

He says, “I try to peel back the layers of a city to see what's underneath. From the tops of bridges to the depths of sewer tunnels, these explorations of the urban environment help me puzzle together the interconnected, multi-dimensional history and complexity of the great metropolises of the world.”
