A Single Dandelion Serves as a Delicate Natural Light Source

As we've seen in the past, the designers at Studio Drift are always working to bring the miracles of nature into their many innovative creations. Often, their lighting systems involve complex structures organized around the very delicate dandelion. The Amsterdam-based studio says, “The projects we produce are created to establish a point of balance between information overload and human sensibility. Our goal is to create a dialogue between nature and technology, a perfect combination of knowledge and intuition, science fiction and nature, fantasy and interactivity.”

In this particular piece, entitled Dandelight, the designers have toned down their complex systems to produce a very simple, one-stemmed light source. The handmade design is created out of phosphor Brons, real Dandelions, and an LED light. Standing just 4 x 7 x 2 inches, the dandelion is actually attached directly to the LED, creating a very fragile and unique lighting system. The sculpture, which can be purchased through Studio Drift's online store, serves as both soft illumination as well as a beautiful conceptual design that will add a little natural flair to any home.
