It's official, Jason Wu
, the 26 year old Taipei-born fashion designer, is a star tonight.
In an elegant, creamy one-shoulder Grecian style gown designed by Wu, beloved first lady Michelle Obama slow danced like a blushing bride with her love and the love of the nation, U.S. President Barack Obama, while Beyonce sang the Etta James classic "At Last" at the Leadoff Neighborhood Inaugural Ball in Washington, DC. The ball is one of many glamorous events they will grace tonight as part of the inaugural festivities.

Wu's fame meter received a major boost when Michelle Obama chose #17 from his Spring 2009 collection - a $3,510 raw silk dress with hand-embroidered rosettes - to wear for her interview for ABC’s “The Barbara Walters Special” on Nov. 26. Wu said he received the secretive request for the mysterious "special" customer right after after his September fashion show from Ikram Goldman, owner of the influential Ikram boutique in Chicago.
“I had an inkling who it was for, but I didn’t want to think about it,” said Mr. Wu, then a relative unknown. Wu told the Wall Street Journal Mrs. Obama paid for the dress.
Jason Wu lives in New York. He launched his line in 2006 and was a CFDA finalist. His collection of $3,000 to $6,000 evening gowns and day dresses that retail for $1,000 to $4,000 can be found at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Woohoo for Jason Wu! More of his work to come in the next post.
