Taqwacore: The Birth Of Punk Islam

Taqwacore: The Birth Of Punk Islam is a new film documenting the creation of the underground Muslim punk scene. Originally an imaginary scene created by author, Muslim convert and white kid from Rochester Michael Muhammad Knight Taqwacore became a Muslim Punk maniffesto. At the age of 17 Knight left home to study at a madrassa in Pakistan an act of rebellion against his abusive white suprimist farther. Later he rebelled against the strict religious dogma creating a fictitious Muslim punk scene that resonated with real life young Muslims and led to real life bands touring the US and Pakistan. I think it will be really interesting to see what effect such a rebellious thing as Punk Rock will have on the youth of the Islamic world.

This is fascinating. The dynamic between punk rock and the muslim religion is intriguing.
