The Good Old Days Of Skateboarding (6 Pictures)

I came across this great page on Flickr filled with faded and worn pictures of skateboarding in the 1970's. Back before the X-Games skateboarding was just something you did for fun with your friends in front of your house or at the local park. Some of the riders featured were on the Pepsi Skateboard team that rode in the Macy's Day parade with Tony Alva. These images capture the freedom and independence so many of us have come to love about skating.

@Kevin, no I was more like the kid next to him with the longboard. I had a beautiful one that could carve the sweetest long slow arcs -- like surfing a dream.

I hate to admit it because it will reveal my age but -- this is TOTALLY how I spent my time in the 70s! We would sneak into the empty pools in the park and skate the bowl. It was the coolest thing around. I really wish I had some pictures of myself back then but I don't. Here's a pic I found on the Net though that I think is pretty close to what we looked like.
