My Modern Metropolis

The Lightsails Project is an interactive installation around the Millstaetter lake in Austria. Created by Söhne & Partner Architects in association with Karl Sodek these cionic towers are meant to guide visitors to the exhibits set around the lake. But they are more than just signposts: the towers draw their energy from their surroundings are also react to what is around them. They change color and brightness in relation to the amount of light reflecting off the lake, the temperature, and the number of people nearby.

The Lightsails are designed to represent a modern day version of a lighthouse. Made of steel and glass, they absorb light reflected from the lake, store it, and radiate it out again. They are therefore both a receiver and a transmitter. And they serve as interesting art objects themselves.

I wish we had these here, love the interactive features. Anything that involves colors that change.
