The Standard Hotel Comes to the Big Apple! Opening Soonish.

The New York Standard Hotel is having its soft launch opening on Dec 10th.

Via HotelChatter:

"The Standard, New York is opening its doors to a select group of friends and family on December 10th, 2008. We are opening a handful of rooms in the midst of an otherwise busy construction site, at rates starting at $195. The price includes complimentary Continental breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi and local calls, 24 hour concierge service and use of our lobby."

What's more interesting than The Standard in New York? The hotelier, Andre Balazs.

Besides being devlishly handsome, Andre Balazs owns 10 hotels in New York, Miami and Los Angeles, including the Chateau Marmont, The Mercer, The Standard Hollywood, The Standard Downtown LA, The Standard Miami, Sunset Beach,and the New York Standard Hotel QT and The Raleigh. Quite a lovely collection of hotels, if you ask me.

Graduated from Cornell undergrad then got a masters at Columbia. Dated Uma Therman (hi five!) and then married Katherine Ford, daughter of Eileen Ford (of Ford Modeling agency).

Personally, I'm pretty excited about checking out this hotel. Just like the Ws, The Standards are one of those tried and true brands that sticks to what they know best...creating interesting looking hotels that give people an experience.
