Watchmen
The long awaited hype is over! The complex, multi-layered mystery adventure is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the outlawed masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. Critics are giving it mixed reviews and say Watchmen is a visually powerful, intense and uncompromising epic comic-book film whose technical and thematic strengths are tempered somewhat by its narrative shortcomings.


GREAT RUSSIAN DRAMA

In this Academy Award-nominated film, an 18-year-old boy is on trial for murder, and it's up to a dozen jurors to decide his fate. This Russian drama might bear passing resemblance to the American classic 12 Angry Men, but it's a story deeply rooted in contemporary Russian culture. Critics say it's well worth seeing if only for the insights into contemporary Russian society.

Critics are giving Tokyo! good reviews and say that as a whole, the film provides a challenging picture of contemporary Japan. Three visionary directors tell three separate tales and examine the nature of disparate people who live and work inside the enormous, constantly evolving, and densely populated Japanese metropolis. Tokyo! addresses the timeless question of whether we shape cities, or if cities shape us.
