THE WEEKEND EXPERIENCE: MOVIES OPENiNG 7/10/09

PICK OF THE WEEK

Bruno
Critics are giving Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno great reviews saying that it is an outlandish and entertaining mockumentary that is crude and offensive, but with ample cultural insights and gut-busting laughs

Brüno, a gay fashionista is the host of the top-rated late night fashion show in any German-speaking country--apart from Germany. Brüno’s mission? To become the biggest Austrian celebrity since Hitler. His strategy? To crisscross the globe in the hopes of finding fame and love.

WORTH A LOOK

Humpday
It's been a decade since Ben and Andrew were the bad boys of their college campus. When Andrew shows up, unannounced, on Ben's doorstep, they easily fall back into their old dynamic of heterosexual one-upmanship. After a night of perfunctory carousing, the two find themselves locked in a mutual dare: to enter an amateur porn contest. But what kind of boundary-breaking porn can two dudes make? After the booze and "big talk" run out, only one idea remains--they will have sex together--on camera. It's not gay; it's beyond gay. It's not porn; it's an art project. But how will it work? And more importantly, who will tell Anna, Ben's wife?

Crtics are giving Humpday great reviews, saying it's consistently funny, as well as genuinely insightful about the way men relate to one another.

CULTURAL PICK OF THE WEEK

Soul Power
In linking the legendary 1974 Rumble in the Jungle with the music festival that ran alongside it, critics say we get a remarkable glimpse of the day's racial and political issues.

Though the eyes of the world were on "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974, their ears should have been on Zaire '74, the mammoth music festival that took place in the shadow of the battle between Mohammad Ali and George Foreman. This documentary takes the stellar cut footage from When We Were Kings and chronicles the concerts from big names such as James Brown, B.B. King, Bill Withers, and Celia Cruz. Though Zaire '74 might have been overlooked in favor of the legendary fight, Soul Power still packs a serious punch for music fans
