This graphic (courtesy of Forbes) shows the locations and carbon emissions of the 200 dirtiest power plants in the world. I happen to live right under the red blob on the Eastern side of the US. Coal fired power plant emission are directly responsible for almost all of the pollution I experience near my home. Together these 200 power plants produce billions of tons of carbon emissions every year. But they also produce the low cost electricity that keep our economies rolling. France is the only major country in the world that gets the majority of its electricity from non-fossil sources.

THIS is why we absolutely move to better means of creating electricity. Wind, solar, nuclear and hopefully soon fusion power must replace burning fossil fuels as soon as we can possibly make it happen.

The picture above is available at Forbes.com as an interactive graphic where you can scroll over each plant and see its location and emissions (here).
