Dramatic Action Portraits Capture the Art of Freerunning

Photographer Tomasz Gudzowaty captures stunning samples of motion in his series titled Freerunning – The Art of Movement as active individuals navigate through their environments in free and creative ways. The collection of black and white action portraits feature a number of these dedicated athletes liberally charging through various urban settings (including New York City, Hong Kong, and Mexico City).

Each of the acrobatic free runners' extraordinary skills are represented in the monochromatic collection, with the color scale adding a dramatic element to their physically demanding craft. The project's statement explains: “Deeply influenced by different cultural reference points, including stunt depictions in movies such as The Matrix or Jackie Chan's comedies, video games, break dancing, and martial arts choreography, Parkour/Freerunning has become a lifestyle and philosophy among younger generations… It is simply the art of movement, practiced out of love or professionally. It embraces elements of tricking and street stunts, creating an athletic and aesthetically pleasing way of moving.”
