Pop Culture Icons Digitally Produced Wood Sculptures

French artists Tony and Emmanuelle Lugand created these wood-like sculptures, entitled Holly Wood, by digitally generating them completely from computer designs. Using dark shadows, aged wood textures, and grumpy expressions, the artists have figured out ways to make Mario, Sonic, and Mickey Mouse look dark and evil alongside Darth Vader and the mask from Scream.

Playing on the word Hollywood, the artists reference popular movies and video games to create what appear to be faces sculpted from wood. The shape, texture, and colors are so elaborate that it's hard to believe the pieces aren't hand-carved and painted! But, you can actually visit La Souris sur le Gateau to see the digital process in action.

La Souris sur le Gateau is a photo retouching studio that has been entertaining people with their humorous commercial photography since 2003. Founders Anthony Knapik-Bridenne and Didier Rossigneux, along with their team of graphic artists including Tony and Emmanuelle, maintain a creative environment that always strives to “nourish inner creativity.” That passion can be seen in these finely detailed, realistic, digitally-generated sculptures.
