Spectacular Wave-Inspired Pier

BIG architects, a Danish architecture firm, has been selected as one of three finalists whose design has been selected for St. Petersburg's international pier design competition. Their design hopes to incorporate St. Petersburg's close connection with the bay area while channeling the activity on shore to walk down the pier and enjoy both the "wave walk," and "the wave" that lies at the end of the pier.

The pier is made up of three parts, the "tributary park," which is a park that features indigenous plants, picnic areas, canoe rentals, observations decks, and other activities for one to enjoy. This leads into the "wave walk," which has a mini dock for small boats and a framed swimming pool.

At the end of the pier, "the wave" takes clear inspiration from the moment a wave breaks and curls around. It features an observation deck at the crest and has a multitude of attractions ranging from restaurants, bars, and and area for live shows.
