Dimensions of Space in Plexiglass Layers

Columbian artist Yosman Botero continues to impress us with his most recent work titled Made Matter of Empty which will be showing at the 2012 Shanghai Art Fair. At first glance I thought a person was standing in front of the work and blocking my view but upon further investigation I realized the people are actually part of each piece. Botero combines acrylic paints on plexiglass and layers the multiple pieces together to form these three dimensional figures and the works of art that they are investigating.

This unique combination of materials brings each creation to life and challenges the viewer’s senses. In a previous interview, Botero said that themes often common in his work include time, waiting, and dimensions of space. He said, “By dividing the pictorial elements that together create a whole painting, I create a realistic atmosphere that pushes the boundaries of traditional painting.”
