Lately, we've brought you some incredibly eye-opening visual stories like what it looks like inside a girl's bedroom, what inner city 4th graders are thinking and where children fall asleep. Now, we're excited to bring you a rare look into very different looking bureaucracies around the wolrd.
Photographer Jan Banning traveled across countries like India, Bolivia, China, and Liberia to show us what average citizens see when entering a typical government office.
“Bureaucraticsis a project consisting of a book and exhibition containing 50 photographs, the product of an anarchist's heart, a historian's mind and an artist's eye. It is a comparative photographic study of the culture, rituals and symbols of state civil administrations and its servants in eight countries on five continents, selected on the basis of political, historical and cultural considerations. Though there is a high degree of humor and absurdity in these photos, they also show compassion with the inhabitants of the state's paper labyrinth,” Banning shares.
