The World’s Oldest Living Cat Is 26 Years Old But Still Acts Like a Kitten

Meet Corduroy, a feisty Maine Coon cat that loves the outdoors, hunting critters, and taking naps in the sun. With this zest for life, you'd never guess that Corduroy is 26 years old–that's 121 in cat years(!)–which makes him the World's Oldest Living Cat, according to the Guinness World Records.

Corduroy has been with his human Ashley Reed Okura for his entire life. She and her family adopted him when she was just seven years old and he's been with her ever since. Because of Corduroy's age, Okura has made some living adjustments–like a special low-protein diet that protects his kidneys–but overall, he's in remarkably good health. “Corduroy certainly does not act his age–he still jumps onto counters and jumps down,” Okura told Mirror. In fact, he behaves like a kitten! “Every night, he glides up our flight of stairs and jumps onto our bed and sleeps with us before waking us up every morning around 5am.”

So, what is this cat's secret to a long life? “I strongly believe the key to his longevity is the fact we did not declaw him and allowed him to go outside,” Okura says. “He was able to defend himself and exercise his body and mind by hunting.” Corduroy shows no signs of slowing down, and still loves cuddles and petting from Okura and her husband, Aaron Masuru Okura. “He [Corduroy] is a wonderful companion,” she said, “I hope to give him a happy and healthy life for many more years.”
