Gorgeous Paper Birds Delicately Layered Together

These delicate paper bird sculptures by Colombian artist and industrial designer Diana Beltran Herrera are incredibly realistic. From a distance, the details of each feather, the shape of each bird, and the vibrant colors may lead you to believe that you are looking at a live animal! Originally an industrial designer, the now artist and illustrator has been developing her collection, Mathematics for the Reality, across the course of two years. The collection features all types of bird species, including blackbirds, hummingbirds, flamingoes, swans, and toucans, as well as fish and other biodegradable sculptures.

The artist shows her mastery of paper cutting through the various layers, details, shapes, and techniques used to create many of the tropical birds. Herrera’s bio states, “She is fascinated by nature, full of color and vitality, and that’s what she shows in her work.” Using just bits of paper, Herrera creates a lively energy in some of the sculptures, which are portrayed as actively flapping their wings, squawking, or interacting with other paper birds. She must have incredible patience to form such beautifully detailed, delicate, and environmentally friendly works of art!
