French Photographer’s Beautiful Butterfly Project

L'air frissonne des choses qui s'enfuient (The Air Shivers of Things Fleeing) is a serene series by French photographer Emmanuelle Brisson. Set on a soft palette of neutral colors, delicate butterflies float across the surface of a female form, dressed in thin, white material. I was immediately reminded of the fairytale stories, where the forest animals assist Cinderella in getting dressed for the ball.

The collection of photographs evoke a sense of graceful, isolating sadness. Is the woman possibly a bride, preparing to walk down the aisle? Feelings of heartbreaking loneliness consume each frame and it's difficult to tell where the story will lead. Even without a end to the story, viewers will find themselves captivated by the beauty and mystery behind Brisson's vision. There isn't much online about this passionate artist, but this stunning collection of photographs speak for themselves.

For further insight into the mind of Brisson, take a look at her light-hearted series entitled Can't Get It Out of My Head.
