Ready for a crazy installation? Artist Maurizio Cattelan pulls inspiration from nearly everything around him in both popular culture and history. He's known to produce sculptures that are comedic in nature but often times have an underlying, politically-based theme. He draws from a past of menial jobs and financial hardships that shaped much of his early work, as well as a mistrust in authority. Interestingly, he often makes an effort to portray himself as a fool in his pieces.
Entitled "All," the exhibit is a retrospective of Cattelan's body of work since 1989. Each sculpture hangs from the ceiling suspended by ropes and references the idea of death. It's quite an unusual way to display art, and this unorthodox style only adds to Cattelan's peculiar personality. "All" will be on view at the Guggenheim until January 22, 2012.
