Vibrant Field of Magenta Flowers at the Foot of Mt. Fuji Marks Springtime in Japan

Photographer Hidenobu Suzuki is known for his stunning landscape shots that celebrate overflowing pockets of natural beauty found scattered around Japan. This time, the artist has released a collection of photographs that depict an annual explosion of pink petals that surround the base of Mt. Fuji. The astounding magenta carpet emerges just in time for spring, with locals and tourists alike flocking to witness the spectacle. The superb view of the blooming shibazakura flowers makes it almost appear, as the artist describes, like the famous mountain is wearing a bright pink dress.

Shibazakura is a flower that blooms from mid April to late May, spreading across the ground in lush patches. The plant blossoms in a variety of shades of pink, white, and magenta, growing so thickly in some areas that it appears like an expansive and sweet-smelling rug has been rolled out over the surface of the Earth. In this location, the combination of the proud mountain in the background and the vibrantly blooming shibazakura flowers in the foreground provides a memorable photograph and a perfect backdrop for the Fuji Shibazakura Festival (?????).

Apparently over 800,000 shibazakura bloom together to create the natural extravaganza, which Suzuki has so kindly captured and shared. For more stunning shots of Japan's natural landscapes, check out Suzuki's online portfolio on 500px.
