These paintings by San Diego-based artist Kelsey Brookes are not only amazing, but also very original. Representing personal meditations on spirituality and humanity, Brookes states that his "work draws influence from Hindu and Buddhist deities, exotic animals and sex, as well as rustic American quilts." He also draws reference from the British painter Francis Bacon with painterly splashes of color leaving raw bold marks on the canvas.

If you find yourself in San Diego, you can see catch Kelsey's works at Quint Contemporary Gallery in La Jolla, California until December 19th, 2009.

Very interesting. It's so cool how artists get inspired. Rustic American quilts? I would've never guessed that.

Wow! Love the use of words in the artwork, only problem is I can't read what the words are. Amazing and totally different.
