Karl Lagerfeld Designed an Elegant Chest of Art Supplies to Celebrate a Love of Drawing

Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has recently unveiled a new creation, and it has nothing to do with clothing. He has collaborated with Faber-Castell, one of the world’s oldest manufacturers of pencils, to organize a limited edition set of art supplies. Called the Karlbox, the extensive collection features 350 tools for drawing and painting.

Karlbox was built to resemble a traditional Chinese wedding chest, and each one is numbered to mark its exclusivity—only 2,500 of the kits in total were produced. The wooden box holds 120 Albrecht Durer artists’ watercolor pencils, 60 Pitt Artist Pens Brush, 12 Castell 9000 graphite pencils, and much more. Shades of colors were personally selected by Lagerfeld and represent his lifelong love of art as well as personal aesthetic. “To me, drawing is like breathing and writing,” he explains. “These are things that almost relax me.”

Karlbox is now available at Faber-Castell stores, Karl Lagerfeld boutiques, and Harrods, London. Beautifully curated and packaged, the price tag for this kit is $3,000.
