One Plain, One Fancy

One Plain, One Fancy is one of those fun, user-submitted projects that gets your creative juices flowing! With submissions welcome from everyone, the simple idea is to interpret the phrase ‘One Plain, One Fancy' in your own, unique way. It's the brainchild of Phil Cook and Tom Actman, the duo behind the design agency Mat Dolphin.

“We always liked the idea of having a submission series on our site as we're keen on the idea of sharing creative work other than our own,” Phil Cook said when asked why he started the project. “The phrase ‘One Plain, One Fancy' originally came from the grandmother of co-founder Tom Actman.”

So what's the judging criteria? How do you get on the site? “There is no criteria. Anything goes. Within reason,” says Cook.

“To be honest, it's still surprising to us that people are showing an interest and getting involved with our humble little submission series. We really appreciate every single entry and the fact that more and more keep coming in is great. There have been one or two submissions that will probably raise an eyebrow but nothing too crude. Yet.”
