My Modern Metropolis

René Magritte's Entire Body of Work

If you're a fan of Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte, you're going to want to make your way to Vienna from now till February 26, 2012. The Albertina museum is currently presenting an exhibition, called "René Magritte. The Pleasure Principle," as a tribute to the great artist. About 150 paintings and paper-based works will be shown as well as original writings, photos and film material.

What makes this exhibition so special is that everyone from museums of modern art to private collectors have come together to lend their works to this grand retrospective, enabling the Albertina to present every single one of Magritte's pieces. You'll be able to see how the green apple, the pipe, and the man with the bowler hat are all elements that Magritte repeatedly used in his paintings. They not only bring continuity to his work, they've become his lasting trademark.
