Being Drawn Into Multilayered Torn Photographs

Artist Scott Hazard's Photo Constructs series uses an interesting method to draw in the viewer. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based landscape artist carves into multiple photos that are layered atop one another, producing a three-dimensional perspective into a transcendent passageway. He uses this technique, creating a topographical rendering, in place of clouds, chimney smoke and randomly-placed portals.

Hazard says of this series: "As the viewer’s gaze enters and traverses the layers of images in each construct, vision becomes tactile, lending an articulated viewing experience and a space for the eyes to linger in each image." There is certainly an attractive quality to the sculptural images. They lure you in, leaving your mind to wonder about the possibilities on the other end of the passages. Perhaps Narnia exists?
