Striking Self Portraits by Kyle Thompson

These days, you don't have to go very far to find inspiration, particularly if you're an aspiring photographer. Like many before him, 20-year-old Kyle Thompson cites fellow Flickr photographer Alex Stoddard (and My Modern Met favorite) as one of his own.

Thompson takes self-portraits up a notch with his surreal and stunningly eerie style. Unafraid to take risks, he creates photos that are shocking. Almost more shocking is that he's a pizza delivery man who took up photography only about a year ago. Look through his 365 project (he's currently at day 155) and you'll notice how his style and technique has quickly started to evolve.

"I'm inspired by music, art, and my environment," he tells us. "I love looking through the bizarre paintings by Zdzisław Beksiński, and Francesca Woodman's eerie self portraits. I love to draw, and will often stay up late listening to music and drawing concepts until I create something I'm happy with. I like to think of concepts that are open to interpretation, and tell stories."
